My Five Fall Favorites Around Boston!

There are SO many fun fall activities going on this season. I wanted to write about my favorites around the Boston area. Several of my friends have asked where the best spots are for apple picking or hayrides. I have written about some already, but here is a list that includes some of my local fall favorites north of Boston - anything from my favorite local coffee spot, to corn mazes, apple picking, and farms.

But first, coffee…

Boston King Coffee

First things first. As a mom of three boys under two, I need serious caffeine these days. Where do I stop for the BEST cup of coffee and favorite fall beverages? Boston King Coffee of course! All my local friends absolutely love it. Their coffee, espresso, lattes, and cappuccinos are honestly amazing. The coffee beans are from Italy. The beverages are strong, fresh, and delicious. Peter, the barista there, makes it a point to know everyone's names, their coffee orders, and even some fun facts about them. BKC has the most amazing sandwiches, bagels, muffins, fruit cups, and parfaits in the cutest little hole in the wall spot. The sandwiches and drinks are made to order. Added bonus? They have great seasonal items like apple butters and such; they even had a pumpkin space lotion for customers to try the other day! Most are the Stonewall Kitchen line. 

Once I have my caffeine fix, I usually hit up a local park with the boys or, if I am feeling really adventurous or have the help of Jim, my mom, sister, or Dad, then I may even visit one of these places on my five fall favorite list below. Check them out!

1. Lexington Center

Lexington Center is one of our favorite local spots. On the weekends, we typically grab a coffee and venture over there. We walk up and down the quaint center of town. The boys run around the Lexington Battle Green. Sometimes, we window shop and take the boys into the toy store there. It's called Catch a Falling Star. Other times, we have taken the boys over to Wilson Farm to shop around. It is one of my favorite local farm stands to visit. They have the freshest fruits, vegetables, meats/poultry, and flowers. They also have delicious pies and other baked goods. I hear they also have hayrides but we haven't done it yet.

2. Colby Farm 

I wrote about this amazing heavenly place in this post about Colby Farm. If you haven't made it up to Newbury yet, I highly recommend it. Plus, there were sunflowers growing in the back that weren't in bloom yet. Therefore, it must last for months since they are still continuing to grow.

3. Bolton Springs Farms

This is a PERFECT family spot. Again, I wrote about it here in this "very New England" post. Bolton Springs is one of the oldest and most scenic apple orchards in all of New England.  While picking your apples, you can also take in a breathtaking view of the surrounding towns. It's so quaint and so "fall". They also offer hayrides through their pumpkin patch!  

4. Harpoon October Events

Harpoon, one of me and Jim's favs from the Boston area, offers seasonal events (Oktoberfest was 10/1 and featured beer, bratwurst, waltzing musicians in lederhosen, and contests). The Harpoon Brewery is located at 306 Northern Ave, Boston, MA. Don't worry, you didn't miss their only October event! All month, they are having local fun fall events - they are listed on their website. You can attend in and around Boston at local restaurants or at their Brewery at the address above.

5. Connors Farm

Connors Farm in Danvers offers a crazy awesome corn maze that changes every year.  It is about $10 per adult to visit during the week, and $14 on the weekends. Children under 2 years old are free. They also have free parking which is a plus. A ticket to Connors Farm includes hayrides, pedal carts, and other fun activities. It's great for the whole family! I also wanted to list a personal favorite event of mine and that's the upcoming 62nd annual Woburn Halloween Parade. It's one of the longest running Halloween parades in Massachusetts. And it's a great one. Perfect for the kids. A lot of people dress up. Here's a little blurb from the host, Lions Club, on the Woburn Halloween Parade.

"62 years ago, the directors and members of our Lions Club decided to create the Woburn Lions Annual Halloween Parade to give back to the City of Woburn.  From the early days the parade has grown each year to be the amazing event that we now have today.  80,000 spectators, over 25 bands or marching unit, more than 75 floats,  clowns, balloons, food vendors, friends, kids in costune some thing for everyone indeed."
